Brittany Carroll Lacayo attended James Madison University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Brittany Carroll Lacayo then went on to receive her Juris Doctorate from the University of Houston Law Center. She excelled in law school, serving as an Articles Editor for the Houston Journal of International Law and she was elected to the Moot Court Board. Brittany Carroll Lacayo completed two internships at the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. At the District Attorney’s Office, she gained valuable insight into the prosecutorial process. She also completed a judicial internship with the Honorable Judge Eva Guzman at the Fourteenth Court of Appeals. During her judicial internship, she assisted in researching and writing court opinions for criminal appeals. Brittany Carroll Lacayo was then offered a position as a law clerk at the prestigious criminal law firm of Bires Schaffer & DeBorde. She clerked for Bires Schaffer & DeBorde for one year before going on to complete a graduate fellowship at the Federal Public Defender’s Office for the Southern District of Texas. While at the Public Defender’s Office she gained experience defending clients in the federal court system. Mrs. Lacayo was an attorney with the law firm of Bires Schaffer and DeBorde practicing criminal defense for four years before she opened up her own law firm in Montrose.
